PREVIEW: The Iconic Sign comes to life…

This bas-relief art work shows a mythical Hollywood hills landscape that is an homage to the iconic Hollywood sign, L.A.’s green tech heritage, the politics of exclusion and diversity, Southern California’s Light and Space art movement and the entertainment capital. To the original 1923 Hollywoodland sign, credited to my great grandfather, with its perimeter lights and a white dot that signified a white community free from communism, crime and corruption, I have added contemporary touches such as gold leaf letters, windmills, exaggerated sunset skies and graffiti. Motion-controlled LEDs transform the sky into an ever changing palette of saturated colors, while five windmills spin intermittently and the sign’s letters and white dot light up with changing sequences.

Mixed media: LEDs, acrylic sign with gold leaf, plastic windmills with motors,  painted paper over aluminum screen. Edition of 3, plus 1 AP. 80” W x 30” H x 6” D. $20,000 Inquire about availability and current pricing here.
